Lord Sainsbury Visit January 2007

Lord David Sainsbury of Turville visited San Diego in January 2007 as part of a review he is conducting of science and innovation policies across government. Lord Sainsbury held the post of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State and Minister for Science and Innovation of the United Kingdom under the government of Tony Blair, from July 1998 to November 2006.

In November 2006 Lord Sainsbury was asked by the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, to carry out a review. The Review takes a forward look at what needs to be done to ensure the UK's continued success in wealth creation and scientific policy-making. The Sainsbury Review will report to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the Secretaries of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills; Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform; and Children, Schools and Families in time for the Comprehensive Spending Review in fall 2007.

The Report Race to the Top was published in October 2007. Note page 149 (devoted to CONNECT), and page 155 (a strong endorsement of the UK-US Science Bridge Program with Southern California).
