Break-out 3: Next Generation Incubators
Facilitator: Nathan Owens, Director, Regional Assessments, Global CONNECT
Traditional high technology business incubators have a mixed record of success. This may be due to those that are more real estate plays than providers of hands-on assistance to entrepreneurs. This panel will explore different models that offer much more robust services in the form of coaching, mentoring, and capital. Panelists will describe how these accelerators, as they are sometimes called, are funded and organized, and the services they provide.

Simon Bond, Director of Innovation Centres, University of Bath [Presentation]
Kanetaka Maki, Partner, EGG Japan (Mitsubishi Estate Co., LTD) [Presentation]

Break-out 4: Attracting Entrepreneurs

Stimulating Cleantech Cluster Development

In many countries, the policy imperative to mitigate environmental impact is creating new markets for the broad area often known as "cleantech." Many regions are looking at this as an opportunity to develop a new technology cluster. Panelists will look at the evolution of this set of opportunities.
Panelists:
Abi Barrow, Founding Director, Massachusetts Technology Transfer Center
Robert Trezona, Research and Development Manager, Carbon Trust

Speaker: Richard Halkett, Executive Director, NESTA [Presentation]
The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) develops strategies to transform the UK's capacity for innovation. NESTA believes that innovation – the successful exploitation of new ideas – is a national priority. Economic success and social progress depend greatly on a country’s ability to encourage and bring new ideas to market. Solving the urgent social and environmental challenges of the 21st century will also require increasingly innovative solutions.
