Nathan oversees projects that help clients gain a better understanding of their regional innovation system's assets and capabilities. Past work includes an assessment of knowledge transfer mechanisms that enable the commercialization of new technologies in the Canadian province of British Columbia, the co-authoring of a report that examined several science and technology-based industries on both sides of the San Diego-Baja California border, as well as reports on San Diego's clean technology industry. He most recently completed an feasibility study on behalf of a Singapore-based client. He has also managed a multi-year project that seeks to link regions in Mexico with emerging capabilities in the life sciences with one another and with San Diego. Additionally, Nathan is part of Global CONNECT's research team on its NSF-funded project to examine the role boundary-spanning organizations play in supporting the growth of regional high technology industries.

Prior to joining UC San Diego Extension, Nathan worked as a research analyst for a Washington, DC consulting firm where he assisted Japan-based clients on issues related to US science and technology policy as well as market trends in the information technology and telecommunications industries. Nathan holds a Master's degree in Science, Technology, and Public Policy from The George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs in Washington, DC, and a Bachelor's degree in political science from UC San Diego.
